Very interesting. I only discovered this blog a few days ago. Not that I'm complaining, but what happened to optimal and flatest?
Also, according to my string, 5, 21, 14, 4, 26 (via the waterfront from 5 to 21) is a shorter distance than 5, 4, 21, 14, 26

Chris, a great blog and I have been watching in the background over the last few weeks.
Since I ran the "lot" at the Punt, I thought I'd add my route, as well as the GPS read from my Garmin.
Interestingly my route is almost identical to your analysis for the 600, as follows
30-18-9-17-8-16-28-25-15-27-13-12-3-23-22-2-24-5-21-11-1-14-4-26-6-7-20-10-19-29
I'd agree with Jim that 5-4 is flawed an wonder if your process allows for the skirting of the tracks along the water from 5 to 21 that I took. Also I opted for 10 to 19 to 29 rather than an in and out on 29. In hindsight the run up the slope to the finish would have been faster than climbing back up the stairs from 29, IMHO.
With a slight stuff up on 9 to 17 in my run the Garmin read it as 9.99km and 61m climb, I think the above 2 points probably explain the differences against your calcs.
